Gemma Maple Hill Solar Project

Scope of Work

ANS Geo, Inc. conduct a pile load testing program in support of the proposed Gemma Maple Hill Solar Project in the Town of Puritan, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. The project is expected to generate approximately 150 megawatts of renewable solar energy.

Tasks Performed

ANS Geo installed 59 piles (W8x18) at 34 locations in accordance with Client’s procedures. Few piles were shifted to due to delineated wetland and existing debris on site. These site conditions were coordinated with Client prior to revising the proposed test pile locations.

Due to shallow bedrock conditions, all test pile location were pre-drilled to allow for driving piles into bedrock if needed. If bedrock was encountered during pre-drilling within the planned embedment depth, the pile was installed into bedrock in the pre-drilled hole. If bedrock was not encountered during pre-drilling, the installation of the pile was offset at least 5 feet to install the pile in virgin soil, so as not to lose capacity or provide erroneous results related to installing a pile in a disturbed hole.

As per Client’s specifications, each pile was installed to an embedment depth of 7 to 9.5 feet below existing grade using a GAYK HRE 4000 Pile Driver. After 72-hours from pile installation, uplift and lateral load tests were performed on each pile. Uplift load testing was performed first and then the lateral load testing afterwards.

Once the load tests were completed, piles were removed, and the bottoms of the piles were observed for pile flaring. Load testing program was overseen and logged by an ANS Geo geotechnical representative under the direction of a Professional Engineer licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The results were compiled and provided in a report to the Client.
